Gulizar Jonian is an Architect, and has also studied Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Real Estate Management, and Professional Practice & Office Management. She has worked on projects in England, Egypt, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. She was the first female Architect to set up a branch office of an International practice in the UAE in the late seventies.
Next to Architecture, as a businesswoman, Gulizar founded and ran many businesses in the UAE and Canada, including flower shops, boutiques, a restaurant, as well as a personalized children's books franchise. She has also been involved with many cultural and educational entities. She served on the Advisory Council of her city in Montreal and on the School Board of Directors. Her fundraising efforts included "Missing Children's Network," "Telethon of stars" in aid of children's hospitals, "ACYOC" for constructing clinics for the needy, Autism, The Red Crescent and more.
Gulizar is frequently invited to speak and moderate panel discussions in conferences and seminars, such as the Arabian Business Women's Forum, Leaders in Architecture MENA Summit, International Women's Day Annual events, etc. as a professional and advocate of women empowerment, and gender parity issues that are close to her heart.
Gulizar has served as the Chair of the Women's Excellence Group under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce, and currently is the co-founder of The Events Atelier and the Chair of the International Business Women's Group, IBWG.
